Juvenile Recurrent Parotitis

Juvenile Recurrent Parotitis

It is a recurrent infection of the parotid gland that affects some children. It presents with episodes of painful swelling of the parotid gland. The condition usually appears between the ages of 3 and 5 years.

In most cases, the condition resolves by the end of puberty. Treatment is usually conservative, aiming to provide symptomatic relief as well as to prevent recurrences and destruction of the gland. If left untreated, it may in fact lead to complete destruction of the gland.
